Plan for sterilisation and contamination control

Confirm that reusable glassware, caps and markings tolerate the selected washing and sterilisation process. Avoid overcrowding loads, inspect glassware for cracks or chips, and separate clean, used and contaminated items through the workflow.

  • Choose compatible borosilicate or specified material for thermal cycling.
  • Use closures that permit the validated sterilisation process where required.
  • Provide dedicated trays, racks and carriers for safe movement.
  • Define inspection, washing, drying, storage and discard procedures.

How to estimate quantities

For each method, multiply the glassware used per batch by the number of daily batches, then add the sets required while used items are washing, drying, sterilising or held for quality checks. Include breakage allowance according to local experience rather than applying one universal percentage.
